LGA Wards are divisions within an LGA used for the election of councillors. Not all LGAs have to be divided into wards. The extents of the LGA Wards are defined by technical descriptions and published in the Government Gazette. Redescriptions can be gazetted at any time, but new ward descriptions generally do not change (update) until immediately prior to the next Local Government elections – which is at 8am on election day, which is the third Saturday in October every other (odd numbered) year. The SCDB holds two sets of ward boundaries with different usage codes - Pre gazetted as usage code 155 & Current as usage code 154.
