Originally Land Districts were described by technical description, and Proclaimed under the Land Act, and published in the Government Gazette. Today, a document is raised on behalf of the Minister for Lands, in accordance with section 26(2) of the Land Administration Act 1997, whereas changes to the Land Districts in question are described. Changes can take place once the document has been approved.
If a Town site extent is changed, then the corresponding Land District is changed accordingly.
The Land District is the highest level of land division used for land titling in WA, under the Land Act. Numeric locations created within a district were originally used to describe land parcels. Now land is described as Lot on Plan, and so Land Districts are used more for descriptive purposes today. SCDB usage code 167.
