This dataset shows the position and names of railway stations and railway sidings within the State of Queensland. The data has been compiled from numerous sources to produce a state wide coverage.

Dataset Purpose

To provide the position of railway stations and railway sidings for use in topographic mapping and in the production of navigational and web based mapping applications.

Dataset Lineage

The QRAIL dataset was provided to Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines (DNRM) under a sharing licence agreement. Station names were provided as part of this data. Other stations from private lines have also been added from other sources.This data has been supplemented with railway design data derived using high precision GPS, data captured from heads-up digitising of digital aerial photography, digitising of 1:100,000 topographic maps, and schematic drawings of the railway network.Information from Geoscience Australia (GA) has been included. Geoscience Australia has commenced this program of large scale revision mapping and data revision over Australia in partnership with state government mapping agencies and regional stakeholders. The data in these work packages have been captured in collaboration with the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines (DNRM). An attribute associated with every feature records the source of update information.
