The QRAIL dataset was provided to the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines (DNRM) under a sharing licence agreement. The branch line code attribute supplied with the line data was used in conjunction with the Railway Map of Queensland – Line Code Reference System Dec 2006 to build the full branch names for all lines features supplied.
QRAIL metadata document quotes (Original dataset was compiled from kinematic differential GPS attached to a track vehicle travelling along one railway track for a large number of railway corridors across the Queensland network. This data has been supplemented with railway design data derived using high precision GPS, from heads-up digitising of digital aerial photography, digitising of 1:100,000 Transverse Mercator topographic maps, and schematic drawings of the railway network).
Information from Geoscience Australia (GA) data has been included such as private rail and attributes such as gauge and operational status. Private railways such as cane lines are included when captured under the GA large scale mapping program or DNRM topographic capture programs. Geoscience Australia has commenced this program of large scale revision mapping and data revision over Australia in partnership with state government mapping agencies and regional stakeholders. The data in these work packages has been captured in collaboration with the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines (DNRM). An attribute associated with every feature records the source of update information.
