CORSnet-NSW is a precise positioning service that gives users access to fast and accurate positioning and guidance solutions across NSW. CORSnet-NSW uses the latest Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology to provide an accurate spatial reference network for NSW and support the growing number of precise positioning and guidance applications throughout the state.

Dataset Purpose

NSW’s authoritative, reliable, high accuracy spatial referencing system and it provides a common reference for all geospatial data. Services are used by specialists and non-specialists alike, for a growing number of applications (e.g. surveying, construction, mining, precision agriculture, asset capture, tracking, navigation, emergency response, law enforcement, insurance, security, climate/weather forecast and recreation). In order to maximise the benefits of positioning and the enabling infrastructure, and to provide assurance to users of the fitness for purpose of the position outputs, guiding principles are required to enable the consistent and reliable determination and use of position information. CORSnet-NSW Services are used internally by Surveyors to maintain and improve the NSW survey control network and by Aerial operations to determine precise trajectories of the airborne sensors of imagery and LiDAR missions.

Dataset Lineage

CORSnet-NSW services are delivered by a network of permanent GNSS receivers – known as Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) – that are strategically located across NSW. The CORSnet-NSW network continuously observes and corrects satellite navigation signals in order to achieve international standard, high accuracy positioning data for NSW. The three key data services provided by the network are:1. DGPS data: differential GPS data that is available in real-time to users in the field. 2. RTK/NRTK data: single base or network real time kinematic data that is available to users in the field. 3. RINEX data: receiver independent exchange data that is archived and available to users from their desktop for post processing. Data specifications available at www.corsnet.com.au for DGPS, RTK and RINEX data. In addition, CORS infrastructure complies with the LPI developed standard: Guidelines for CORSnet-NSW Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS). CORSnet-NSW data set is updated in real time every second for every CORS connected to the CORnet-NSW data centre. The precise coordinates of the CORS sites are updated with NMI Regulation 13 Certification values: 1. On operation and public the CORS FOC. 2. If the CORS monument has been shown to have physically moved. 3. If the CORS receiver or CORS antenna has been replaced. 4. At least every five years.LPI receives data streams from a few CORS operated by Geoscience Australia, Victoria’s Department of Sustainability and Environment, one form the ACT Department of Environment and Sustainable Development and some private sector CORS operators. The data is merged with LPI CORS data to provide the services through the CORSnet-NSW structure. Contributors to CORSnet-NSW are listed at www.lpi.nsw.gov.au/surveying/corsnet-nsw/network_information.
