There are a number of geodetic observations and measurements performed at the national and local scale that contribute to datum definition, standards and lower positioning uncertainties. They also form part of the fundamental physical infrastructure that contribute to the National Positioning Infrastructure (NPI) Capability. These measurement techniques include over 120 Commonwealth, and State and Territory continuously operating Global Navigation Satellite System receivers, 2 Satellite Laser Ranging stations, 5 Very Long Baseline Interferometry radio telescopes, Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar, and geodetic gravity.
